Kratom and Depression

Something that I haven’t experienced personally, though I know of several people who know otherwise, is that kratom can be effective for depression. Because I don’t suffer from depression, it is difficult for me to accurately empathize, though I know that kratom has had some great effects on mood for me, even long-term.

For those of you who suffer from depression, I highly suggest using a white vein strain as those seem to have the most profound effects for depression, even with long-term usage. Red vein and some green vein strains can be too sedative and create a tolerance over periods of time, making them less effective for this purpose, especially if your energy is already low.

Both Maeng Da and Thai strains can be effective, though I would only suggest them for short-term use in depression due to their strength and potential for creating tolerance.

The Scoop on Kratom Withdrawal Symptoms

kratom withdrawal symptomsSomething that regular users of kratom may be concerned with, especially when taking kratom daily for a condition like pain is kratom withdrawal. Although kratom withdrawal symptoms are fairly mild, it can still be an unpleasant experience that is easily avoidable with a little bit of common sense.

How it occurs

Kratom withdrawal symptoms occur only after a consistently long time period of regularly taking kratom, typically a few months of multiple uses a day. In order to avoid kratom withdrawal, the best thing to do is to stagger your usage. Even taking one or two days off per week can have a dramatic effect on whether you get kratom withdrawal symptoms.

Another factor which determines how acute the kratom withdrawal symptoms are is dosage. At smaller doses, kratom withdrawal is much less likely.

Kratom Withdrawal Symptoms

In order to know what to expect, I’ll give a general overview of the symptoms you may experience during kratom withdrawal, if regular use is rapidly seized.

  • Disrupted sleep patterns
  • Runny Nose
  • Nausea
  • Chills (Occasionally with goose bumps, where the term “Cold Turkey” originates)
  • Weakness
  • Lethargy / Lack of Energy
  • Loose stools

Because the symptoms vary from person to person, one person will likely not get all of them, however, a few will likely be present depending upon the severity.

For those who need to take kratom regularly for whatever medical reason, it is a good idea to try to take breaks whenever possible in order to avoid getting kratom withdrawal. Although the severity is nothing in comparison to many other forms of withdrawal, it is still certainly worth avoiding if at all possible.

There are other methods which can help either avoid withdrawal or lessen the severity of it. One common method, I have read about in several places, but originally here, is to swap out different strains on different days in order to avoid your body adjusting to any one set of particular alkaloids.

Additionally, I’ve read that certain supplements like Cat’s Claw can slow down the development of tolerance to not only kratom, but many other things. It is definitely worth giving it a shot, especially since it is a potent immune system booster.

Although I stated this previously, still, by far the best method to avoiding tolerance and hence withdrawal symptoms from kratom is to take tolerance breaks, or to lower the dose. If kratom stops being as effective for you, it is a good sign you should take a break.

An Easy Kratom Extraction

Those of you who know me know that I’m a big fan of kratom extracts, though somehow I manage to use them in moderation. This video shows you how to create a very simple kratom extract using little more than water and a little bit of lemon juice. I’m not a big fan of the music as it doesn’t quite fit, but you can easily turn it down or mute it. I use a method quite similar to this, and I hope you find it useful.

My Experiences with Maeng Da

maeng da kratomAlmost everyone who has done a bit of research on kratom has heard of Maeng Da, the most prominent of kratom strains. Because a lot of companies sell Maeng Da, it can be hard to know if you are getting a genuine product, however, despite this you can generally judge this strain from its effects.

My experiences with Maeng Da are pretty great overall, as I am a big fan of stimulating varieties of kratom. My first experience with this strain was years ago, right before writing a big paper, and I found myself working tirelessly for 6 hours, and it is typically quite difficult for me to sustain this kind of focus, especially while doing something as mentally intensive as writing a paper.

My second experience with kratom was dumb in retrospect, as I took it only a few hours before trying to sleep. Needless to say, I got no sleep that night, but on the positive side, I did clean my house.

Overall my experiences with Maeng Da are quite euphoric, and I have found that it is really great for sustaining energy over long periods of time, both physical and mental. Anyone who is interested in trying this strain, I highly suggest it. You may love Maeng Da or hate it, but you definitely won’t know until you try it.

Kratom’s Media Portrayal

kratomOne of the things that frustrates me unbelievably is kratom’s portrayal in most of the mainstream media. Just reading through the news on kratom, you’ll find unjustified and unbelievable claims of kratom causing violence, hallucinations, and other misinformation which has no evidence in either experience or studies done on this wonderful plant.

However, on the other side of the coin, I have come across very genuine journalists who report on kratom in a fair and unbiased way, but it seems that these reports are far and few between, though luckily they have been increasing in number as kratom becomes more popular.

In any negative campaign like this, control of information is key, though even in the age of free information, this misinformation still continues to be disseminated through popular channels. In order to keep this medicinal plant legal, accurate and genuine information needs to be spread on kratom.

Anything that you can do to provide accurate information on this plant can be tremendously helpful. Because of this, I urge you to do whatever you can to ensure that quality information on kratom is spread.

Euphoric Kratom Strains

euphoric kratomI recently wrote an article about buying kratom, and included a general depiction of a few different kratom strains, but this time I’m going to go much more in depth to help you find the most euphoric kratom strain. Like many other good things in life, a good euphoric strain of kratom can be hard to come by, so I decided to compile this list to make it easier for you to find.

Top Euphoric Kratom Strains

Because kratom strains all have different properties, every user will respond in a different way to different strains. Because of this, naming the one most euphoric kratom strain would not only be myopic, but wrong for many people. Because of this, this list is based upon how most users respond to different strains.

Maeng Da

Maeng Da has for a long time been considered by many to be the most euphoric strain of kratom for a few reasons. The primary reason is because it contains high levels of painkilling alkaloids which are primarily responsible for euphoric effects. For many, Maeng Da also has a bonus level of euphoria from its stimulating effects, however, not all respond well to them, so it may not be the case for you.

Another highly euphoric type of kratom is the indo strain. Although Indo is often used as a blanket term for several different strains of kratom, vendors typically only list their most potent Indonesian kratom as a true Indo. Typically Indo strains are highly sedating and typically contain very little stimulating effects, making them perfect for those who prefer relaxation.

Borneo strains are quite similar to indo strains in a lot of ways, but are typically even more sedating. With Borneo strains, it is often hit and miss, however, some of the most euphoric strains of kratom I have experienced were Borneo. Borneo have a characteristic warm, sleepy, carefree feeling.

Like both Indo and Borneo, Bali strains are sedative, but Bali is somewhat more stimulating. Some enjoy this, but others claim that Bali has a dirty feeling. It is definitely a personal preference, as I know some kratom users who only use Bali. This article contains some good information on the unique nature of Bali strains.

For those looking for a euphoric but stimulating strain, Thai can be a hit or a miss, however, red vein Thai is almost always a good choice. Red Vein Thai is very similar to maeng da in effects, but can vary a bit. For stimulating strain lovers, I would highly suggest it.

While there are a vast number of other different strains which have euphoric properties, these are the most purchased for a reason. For those who prefer a sedating strain, Indo, Borneo or Bali are ideal, while energetic kratom fans, Thai or Maeng Da is ideal.

Using Kratom for Insomnia

kratom for insomniaAlthough it isn’t something that is frequently talked about, I have found that kratom can be a tremendous help to those who suffer from insomnia. My personal experience have been nothing short of miraculous when it comes to dealing with this problem.

I have previously tried other pharmaceuticals to deal with sleep problems, but they either leave me waking up as if I hadn’t got sleep, or waking up extremely lethargic. A good strain of kratom, however, helps me sleep and doesn’t leave me feeling nasty in the morning.

However, before you decide to use kratom, there are some things you should know, otherwise you may wind up with worse insomnia instead of curing insomnia.

The first, and most important thing is strain choice. If you don’t have much experience with different strains, it can be very difficult to find one that is ideal for insomnia. Some strains, especially Thai and Maeng Da can leave you wired instead of tired. For this reason, I’ll go over some popular strain choices for insomnia, and for all of these I highly suggest getting a red vein:

By sticking to one of these three strains, you’ll have much better luck finding a kratom that works for you. In my experience, a good Borneo is unbeatable, but your mileage may vary.

Another thing to consider is dosage, in my experience it is a good idea to dose moderate-high doses in order to avoid the stimulating effect that is common in lower doses of kratom.

Hopefully with this information, you will be able to beat insomnia once and for all.

Guide to Buying Kratom Online

buying kratomIf you’re new to kratom, it isn’t easy to know where to start, especially if you’re looking to buy kratom online. There are a multitude of different vendors and strains that have definitely marked differences, and to research each one takes a good bit of effort. From this difficulty, I decided it might be good to create a short guide to help new users both find a good vendor and a good strain.

Getting Started

When I first started looking into kratom, I had no idea what to expect. I had heard a lot of mixed reports, some stated that kratom was stimulating, others that kratom was sedating, and one even said it would give me hallucinations (obviously FDA propaganda in retrospect, though I was skeptical at the time as well due to user reports).

The truth is that each strain has different effects, and so if you’re looking to get the best results from any kratom strain you buy, you need to get a general overview of different strain properties which I’ll provide:

  • Red Vein Strains – Typically more sedating, great for pain relief and relaxation
  • Green Vein Strains – Somewhere in the middle, a well balanced strain with both relaxing and stimulating properties.
  • White Vein Strains – Stimulating, less effective for pain relief, good for focus.

On top of different vein types, there are also different strains which depend upon their origin. Some of the most popular include:

  • Thai Kratom – Typically quite stimulating kratom, low-moderate for pain relief. Red Vein Thai can typically be used quite effectively for pain relief, however.
  • Bali/Borneo/Indo – While there are definitely some differences between these strains, they are typically characterized by their sedative qualities and excellent pain relief.
  • Maeng Da – Also stimulating, while being effective for pain as well. Considered the king of all kratom strains due to its unique, powerful nature.
  • Malaysian Strains – Vary dramatically from stimulating to sedating, typically in between, however.

Finding a Good Vendor

Throughout your time with kratom, you will likely experiment with a wide range of different vendors and find some good ones. One of my favorite places to buy kratom has been, though, they have since taken a hiatus it seems. Despite that, there are many other good vendors out there.

Some other good vendors I have found include, though there are definitely other good vendors. The best thing to do when starting out is to look for good reviews, and there are many great sources for this, some of the best of which are forums. There you can register and find reviews from a dedicated group of kratom users.

Finding a good group of kratom vendors to choose from may take a bit of time, however, you can dramatically shorten that time by finding good reviews from experienced kratom users, or on blogs such as this one which contain reviews.

A Simple Guide to Kratom

Although I’m typically not one to watch online videos, with the exception of music, but as a first post I thought this simple guide to kratom might be helpful for those of you who are new to kratom. A lot of what the creator of this video says corresponds with my own experiences, and although I learn best by reading, a lot of you who learn best otherwise may find this very helpful. It goes into a short strain analysis, similar to what I’m going to soon post.
